LASERS POINTED AT PLANES IN RECORD NUMBERS IN 2010, SAYS FAA


Government Says 2,800 Cases Reported; security Concern for Pilots, Passengers Over 2,800 cases of lasers life form pointed at airplane cockpits were reported in 2010, almost double the number reported in 2009, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.


Los Angeles International Airport had the the majority incidents in the country with 102 reports, and Chicago's O'Hare was a close subsequent with 98. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and San Jose International Airport both had 80. "This is a serious safety issue," said U.S. transport Secretary Ray LaHood in a statement. "Lasers can distract and harm pilots who are effective to get passengers safely to their destinations."
